Buying property with tax deferred accounts

Posted

Hi all,

I've read snippets in BP books and on these forums but would appreciate some more information. How is it possible to invest in real estate using money in tax deferred accounts? I have an i401k and all the money is in stocks and bonds. Is it simply buying real estate ETFs or could I purchase an investment property using those funds? If so, do all proceeds go back to that account?

Thank you.

@Jonathan McGarrity there are a few intermediaries out there that can help you and finding one local might be useful. Mountain West IRA is one in Idaho that helps folks with this, and there are many rules you need to understand and they can help get you in the right direction.

And to answer the question you can buy properties through your IRA, but you can not get traditional financing. Can be really powerful.
