A solution to finding vacation/short-term property managers

Michael Zeng
Posted

Hey all!

Earlier this year I had bought a short-term investment property in Orlando, and I needed to find myself a property manager. I had no idea had to begin that process, so I just went with the PM (property manager) that my realtor suggested. They said great things about them, so why not, right? Fast forward a few months - I was missing multiple months of payment, guests were leaving bad reviews, and my PM had become non-responsive. I decided to take matters into my own hands (as I probably should have from the get go), and canceled the working relationship & threatened legal action if they didn't follow through with our payments. They finally did as I asked, but not without leaving me in a scramble to find another PM. I had to find another PM, and I had to find one fast!

I thought this process to find another PM would be quick & easy. Turns out - I was horribly wrong. What information should I look for? How should I compare PMs? How do I get this information? These were some of the questions I had to answer, and time was of the essence. I ended up finding a PM, but the whole process was stressful and redundant. I found that the Property Management industry overall is not very transparent with essential information such as fee structure, billing, bookings. Through Bigger Pockets I actually found that many vacation rental homeowners were experiencing similar problems.

As a result, I got a group together to build a website which solves these problems. We call it FindYourPM (www.findyourpm.com), and it allows homeowners to easily search for & compare PMs, while also allowing PMs to manage and showcase their services in different cities & states across the US!

The team & I are working daily to add more PM data to this site (PMs can also add info themselves), but there is currently enough information to begin helping out homeowners with their PM search. If people could give this site a try to see if it's helpful or not, we'd really appreciate it! We're trying our best to make this an easy, transparent experience.

Best

Michael

TLDR: Finding a vacation property manager is hard. Information is hard to find, comparison is non-trivial, and discovery is random. We built the website FindYourPM to enable easy discovery, comparison & contact with PMs, while also allowing PMs to manage and showcase their services in different cities & states across the US! Visit www.findyourpm.com to try it out!
