Stock option- Sell to buy real estate, tax implications?

Hi all,

My husband's employer gives an option when they hand out bonuses- you can take the cash or you can take it in stock. He is wondering, if he takes the stock, what would the tax implications be if he sold the stock to buy real estate? This would be separate from his retirement program, so I am guessing that there is no tax avoidance in this type of scenario, is that correct?

Thanks,
Kelly
