If you are actively investing in RE and are loaning private money out of your SD 401K, Can your SD401K trust pay for you to attend a class?

    Maybe, but not likely a good idea.  

    If there is absolutely 100% correlation between the class and operation of plan investments only, the IRS may find this to be acceptable in the event of an audit.  If, however, they feel there is any personal benefit to you then it would be viewed as a prohibited transaction.

    There is no specific tax code language that addresses this detail.  You have to operate based on interpretation.  Therein lies risk.
