Self directed IRA investing and RMD

Posted

I have a beneficiary self directed checkbook IRA and I am required to take RMD. I am going to invest in a real estate fund that will give monthly distributions from the investment. I have the option of reinvesting the distribution or getting a check for it. I would like to reinvest it but am confused as to how to handle the RMD. Do I have to actually move the money into the iRA and then reinvest it or is it just a line on my taxes that shows the amount so that the taxes get paid. I will be getting a K-1 from the investment that will also be income. I can't seem to find anyone that knows the answer to this.
