Question About IRS Liens

Hi All:

I'm working with a seller where all 3 liens are showing up under the same serial # and recorded doc (Notice of Federal Tax Lien recorded with the county).

2 of them have passed the 10 year refiling date so they are no longer valid. However, one of them still is valid and the tax payer listed on the lien is deceased (purchasing the property from her Son who 'inherited' the house).

The Son feels that the lien should have been paid a while ago and perhaps the IRS simply failed to discharge it from record. I guess this is possible however I'm concerned that he may open a can of worms regarding the other 2 liens and maybe the IRS will somehow reinstate those.

Do I have reason for concern in your opinion/experience?
