Negotiating a contract without a lawyer

I have a deal under contract and had an attorney review the contract. The contract is fine, but there are some other tricky things that I would like to do while still in attorney review. I would like to ask for a credit due to replace the roof. I may try to ask for reduction even though it is a pre-approved short sale (that fell through before i picked it up).
What I'm wondering is if I can do this negotiation myself during the attorney review period by just CCing everyone (seller, seller's agent, seller's attorney). The reason is because if the deal falls through for any reason, I don't want to have to pay my attorney 700 or 800 dollars for his time on simple communications that I could've done myself.
