Self directed IRA and LLCs

Hi, I want to buy my first investment property, and I'm trying to learn all I can about how to use my own money. I'm looking into setting up a self directed IRA, that I can manage through my LLC, but it's proving very hard to find whom I can setup a "Real Estate IRA LLC" with. I understand these are 2 separate "things" or are they not?
My goal is to be able to write my own checks, basically be my own fund administrator threw my LLC. Can anybody shed some light on this for me? Any suggestions guidance would be greatly appreciated, and, thanx to all you pros for sharing you knowledge with us, this info could defiantly change my life, thanx!
