Landlord Tenant legal issues

Here is our case in a nutshell: We live in MA and have moved out of our last apartment over 30 days ago. Our landlord has yet to return our security deposit. There were two small/med nail holes in the side of the cabinet panel that overhangs the side of the refrigerator where we put up a picture. He is dragging his feet on getting more estimates and is trying to say we ruined the “cabinets” even tho it’s the panel of ONE.

We don’t know how many people he’s had take a look at the damage for estimates but he’s told us that the only way to fix it is to replace the entire cabinet. He claims these are “$10,000” cabinets and that if the damage is more than what our deposit covers he will pursue legal action against us in return to replace the cabinets.

Does anyone have any advice or a decent landlord tenant attorney they could recommend in MA?
