Excess funds from tax sale

Hello,

I recently purchased a home at a Dallas Texas County Sheriff Tax sale. The property has been renovated and is now rented. I received a letter in the mail stating that there were excess proceeds and I may have rights to proceeds. Has anyone ever had any experience with this? Should I seek legal counsel or is this something that I can handle myself. The story is: The person that owned the home passed away 10 years ago and they did not leave a will or anything. No one ever filed any paperwork in probate court. Someone lived in the home until it was sold and they were asked to leave. Any information regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
