Requesting deferring 203k/Homestyle loan payment for a month/two

I closed on a Renovation loan deal in April and the first payment is in June. I had an issue with the contractor and obtaining the architectural plan for the attic initially but I resolved it but it affected the timeline of getting the permit from the city which pushes us behind when it comes to completing the project. I spoke with the bank about given us an extra month or two before starting to pay the mortgage cos I can not afford to pay two mortgages at the same time. The VP of the mortgage bank said that is not possible that even if they do that HUD will still foreclose on us after a month.

Is it true that HUD can foreclose in this scenario or is it that the bank is not willing to work with us? Is there a way to go around this?
