What to look for when picking a custodian for self-direct IRA?

I am getting started and building my team. I have read alot and ready to jump in.

What should I look for and what questions do I need to ask when choosing a custodian for my self-directed IRA?

Most important to me is  keeping the transaction transparent and ease of access to cash to pay bills and vendors is important. 

I am sure all financial firms aren't equal, but I don't know, what I don't know!
