Hi there,

I am wondering how much do CPAs usually charge for a tax return that involves a simple 1031 exchange? $500? I searched on Google but couldn't find much info.

Thanks in advance

James

@Jiang Hu

1031 exchanges are unique and many tax professionals don't have the experience filing the form required to be attached to their tax return.

This is why it is important interview the accountant to see if they know how to prepare it.
If they never prepared one and they are charging by the hour you risk the chance of being overcharged(because he has to research what he needs to do).

regarding the cost of the return - the total cost will depend on the complexity of the full return.
You should expect to add atleast $150 to your tax return if you have a 1031 exchange.
