Paying to get out of probate?? Is this a scam?
I am interested in purchasing a property currently in probate. The broker said that I need to pay $3,700 (will be put in escrow) to get the property out of probate, and then I can be the first to sign the contract.
I guess the back story is that there was a dispute between the deceased persons family because there was no written will. They can't pay the probate costs so if I pay it, I can sign the contract. I've never done a probate deal before, does this sound unusual to anyone? I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks.
