Hey everyone,

I'm assisting a friend in the purchase of a duplex. He wants to live in one side and rent out the other to help with the monthly housing expense. What are the tax advantages of being an owner occupant in a duplex? If any. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

I don't believe any. If you live in a rental than the fraction of units (duplex would be 1/2) of expenses can't be deducted, and are treated as if it's your own home.
