Self-directed IRA's and the depreciation deduction

Knowing distributions from an IRA are going to be reported as ordinary income, and typically many years in the future, is the value of depreciation deduction lost (or partially so), when buying units inside a self-directed IRA? Thanks in advance to any and all respondents!
