Where should I learn about taxes and loans?

About a week ago I asked a specific question about how taxes factor into the cashflow of a property. When reading the answers I couldn't even follow some of them and I realized how little I know about taxes in general. I was wondering if anyone knows a good starting point for learning about taxes, and while I'm at it I'd love to learn more about loans. I know very little so if anyone has been in a similar situation or knows I good book I should get my hands on let me know. I am not adverse to taking a course on the subject but I'd like to start with self education first if possible.
