How should I protect myself?

Everybody needs to be protected. As a new investor, what would be the most efficient way to protect myself legally and financially? Nobody wants to be sued ever!

@Henry Montgomery III As an investor, homeowner, landlord, driver, human being - I am at risk daily. I try my hardest to lower that risk, but as you know, it's not always possible. We own 5 homes, and have 5 rented units. I choose to protect myself with an umbrella policy. You'll have to decide for yourself what is right for you.  Just know that it's an option that you should research for yourself.
