Adverse Possession

I noticed that my neighbor "unintentionally" built a fence that is 1' inside my land.  I do not want him/her to remove the fence as it does not really bother me (plus the fence looks good).  To protect myself from adverse possession I am thinking about making the neighbor sign a paper acknowledging that this is my land.  One RE investor suggested that I "rent" them the land for $1 / year.  Any ideas?
