Capital Gains Question, 2 Yrs. To Sell or Put on Mrkt

I am a few months away from my 2 year anniversary living in my primary residence. I have rehabbed the home over that time and want to sell it without paying capital gains taxes. In order to take advantage of the tax break, do I need to wait for the 2 year mark to put the house on the market or can I put the house on the market sooner and have the closing date on or after the 2 year mark?
