Can local REIA travel & dinner expenses be deducted

Hi BP,

So I was entering my miles in to Quicken and love seeing the deductions add up. I was thinking, I go to these local REIA meetings and often times I'm required to buy a meal (a deal the restaurant/venue worked out to use the space). I'm I able to deducted my meal expense and miles getting there and back on my taxes? I have a RE LLC and use REIA to further my education.

BONUS question/details: I purchased my REIA membership before my LLC was created. Is your answer still the same above? If different (or same), please explain. Also, Can the membership fee be deducted as a expense even thought purchased before. Please advise.

Thank you!
