Assignability and Liability

I have a quick question about assignability.  I am working with a seller is allowing the contract to be assigned but I am not released from the liability. Is this big deal?  Why does the seller insist that I not be released from liability?  What does it mean for my end buyer and what does it mean for me once it's all said and done?  I prefer to assign with no liability.

Thank you for any input!

Liz
