Legal question regarding property management liability

I had a property management company rent a unit to a tenant without collecting a security deposit before they took possesion (violated their own lease terms). Can this management company be liable for 1) damages exceeding the security deposit amount? 2) Any other expenses (lost rent) that I incurred because the tenant never paid rent for two months?

The management company should have never allowed this tenant to move in. Am I justified to pursue legal action for damages as a result?

Thanks,
AB
