Rhode Island - Possible Increase to Real Estate Transfer tax (please take action)

I just received a message from the Rhode Island Association of Realtors that said:

"The real estate conveyance tax that is paid at closing by sellers of homes and other real estate will increase by 15% on July 1, 2014 unless you act today.

Article 12 of the state budget will increase the tax $2 per $500 of the purchase price to $2.30 per $500. Rhode Islanders already have the 5th highest property tax burden in the country. If Article 12 is approved, Rhode Islanders will pay a higher conveyance tax then our neighbors in Massachusetts.

Please take two minutes to contact your legislators today and ask them to oppose any increase in the real estate conveyance tax: https://www.votervoice.net/RIAR/Campaigns/36341/Respond"

A few moments of your time today taking action could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars at the closing table for years to come!
