Property Reassessment Appeal

Our area just went through it's biennial reassessment and our property had a significant increase. The assessed value is pretty close to what we purchased it for in early 2022, but similar properties have been selling for a much lower amount since then.

Has anyone had an experience with requesting a review by the city assessor where it backfired & the assessment ended up being higher after the appeal? Trying to gauge the risk/reward of possibly getting a disgruntled municipal employee who isn't happy about having to come out and do a review if that ends up being what happens. Or is it best to go right to a court appeal vs. starting with an administrative review?
