Property Tax Help Stark County

Timothy Leong
Posted

I purchased a property on 11/19/2021 and the school board requested the property tax valuation to be adjusted to the purchase price (i didnt contest because the value is what I paid for it) I didnt know they were going to retro the valuation to 1/1/2021 and send me a corrected bill for the entire year and not the proration based on when I owned it.

I spoke to the auditors office and they are telling me that how they do things in Stark County trying to see if there is any way around this? I dont mind paying the increase starting the day I owned the property but to go all the way back to the start date doesnt sound fair.
