Bank bill pay checks
Hello all, I am not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I did not see another appropriate forum. Maybe a forum should be added for specific accounting/bookkeeping issues. I pay my bills with my credit union’s online bill pay system where I just put in the payee’s name and amount of check and the credit union does the rest. They mail the payee a paper with the amount that they treat just like a check.
Recently I paid a vendor and used the company name he had on his card. He called me back and said that company did not yet exist and would I please make a check out to his personal name? I had him send back the original draft the credit union sent him, and I sent him an actual check made out his name. Now the bank is telling me different stories about crediting that draft back to me. One teller said I need to have the vendor make out another check to me. On the phone a person told me I had to bring the draft in and the credit union would treat it as if it were a cashier’s check. Have any of you had this experience?
