Equity LOC + Margin stock purchasing
So I know this is a horrible idea, but I went through the motions anyway. Equity line of credit on my house runs at 6%, and my online stock broker's margin rate is 3.1%. If I pull 100K from my house and then leverage that x 80%, then I get a total position of $180,000 and its only costing me 4.71% interest per year (fully tax deductible!). Last year, broad indexes returned 30%. Am I crazy NOT to consider this as an option to make $45,000 in 2020?
FYI - my net worth is about 150K, age 34, live in wife's house and rent my SFH which has about $150K in equity.
Thanks,
James
