Borrowing Against a Stock / Bond Portfolio?

Hi all! My wife and I are trying to get creative about scraping every penny together that we can. When evaluating our assets we noticed that the largest untapped potential is in a sizable stock/bond portfolio that is currently being professionally managed. The initial thought was to begin cashing out but we'd be faced with the tax implications - wondering if anyone has any experience with a line of credit type product backed with a portfolio as collateral. I wouldn't expect that the line would be anywhere near 100% of the value, probably 50%, but every bit counts. Any insights or leads as to who might offer such a product in the Metro-West Boston area would be greatly appreciated!

Ed
