Heloc came back from the dead
Ten yrs ago I was in financial ruin and filed bankruptcy and I lost two rentals in the bankruptcy. It took me a decade to claw myself back but I now have a good job, rebuilt my credit, and also managed to keep my primary residence thru a remod. I was just about ready to jump back into real estate investing using a HELOC on my primary. But have now been informed that the HELOC that was in the bankruptcy has come back to haunt me. I am told that although I do not owe the debt because it was released in the bankruptcy, the bank still holds the lien and they won't release the lien unless I pay the debt-plus an astronomical amount of fees and interest. Thus my equity in my home I fought so hard to keep is gone and my dreams of investing in rentals is dashed. I hired a lawyer to negotiate a settlement and the bank won't budge. I refuse to give up and I will find away around this but could sure use some advice.
