Homestyle Renovation Loan

I have been told that the Homestyle renovation loan requires a separate general contractor. Are there exceptions for owner occupant with Homestyle? I would like to manage my own home renovation and complete some of the  work myself. I have heard of the fraud issues, but with inspections/appraisals I'm not sure how the money is dispersed if the work hasn't been completed on the specific property. I am a licensed builder and work full time as a general contractor/remodeler
