What To Do If A Mentor or Trainer Is Fake - Won't Refund Your Money & Won't Respond
Unfortunately, sometimes a mentor / coach / teacher /trainer doesn't work out. sometimes they just steal your money. Sometime they are worth their weight in gold. It doesn't matter if they are in CA to FL, or in AZ to OH or TX. A good trainer can train from a moon base.
However, what happens when you've legitimately paid $8,000 $10,000 $15,000 $20,000 or more and they haven't performed? You can't afford to walk away from that kind of money. You could be buying houses with it.
So, here's a suggestion,
1. email them and explain what your complaint is. Keep a copy of all correspondence and track all phone calls & emails to them. Write down date, time and what the conversation included.
2. Give them a chance to make good or refund your money
3. Keep in mind that 90% of failed training is because the trainee won't do the work. That is just a fact. Even bad trainers get "some" good results.
But, if it's just a ploy to take your money, or they ghost you, or always have excuses, or they tell you it's going to be individualized training but they stick you with videos instead, you have a true problem.
4. Document everything
5. Pick up the phone and call your state's attorney General - THEY ARE **FREE**. They want to hear about your problem. Put "Attorney General State of" {state} in a search engine and a phone number will come up - Call Them, they are friendly to You! And they are for that purpose.
6. This is currently a really, really big problem with SubTo, Subject To, Creative Financing, Wholesaling
7. Give the Attorney General a copy of your documentation.
8. Call the local TV station and explain how you've been swindled, see if they will contact the "trainer" for you
It takes a couple of months for the process to work. But if you don't do anything, you lose big time and you shouldn't even try real estate. Real Estate Investing requires doing things the right way. If you don't care enough to take care of your resources . . .
