What is your opinion on Down payment assistance

I was talking to a loan officer and he had mentioned to me down payment assistance programs that they have where you will be assisted on the down payment and you will have to repay it with some interest. So now you would have two loans that you would have to pay back. The down payment loan and the mortgage loan. I have the money to put down on a house but with assistance on the down payment, I get to keep more money in the bank and can use that for future situations, like an emergency of any sorts. What is your opinion on this? If you have done this please let me know how it went.
