Getting mortgage as Expat oversea

Michael Lui
Posted

Hi. I am a US expat who currently living in Hong Kong. I am planning to get a mortgage in order to buy my first house in the U.S. I tried to apply for a pre-approved letter from a U.S. lender. However, he told me that I can't get the conventional loan (Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac) because my address in my tax form is a hong kong address instead of a U.S. address.

Can anyone here give me some advice to proceed? Thanks.
