Apply for a mortgage broker job without experience

Sammi Yang
Posted

Hi, how are you.

I am working as part-time real estate agent now, while my husband is full-time RE agent.

I am interested in residential mortgage lending and would like to take the 20+hours course for the RMLO license in my state - new jersey.

However, I have noticed all jobs hiring mortgage loan Officer or loan brokers in New Jersey now need 2 year+ mortgage loan related working experiences besides this license. Banks and direct lenders even need 5 year+ working experience.

I haven't seen any intern/junior/entry/assistant mortgage loan related job that does not need experience in my county for the past 6 months.

Are there any suggestions if I really take the license course, how do I gain working experience. How and where do I find a job without experience? If I apply for these 2 year experience required job asking for no salary no commission in the beginning, do I have a chance to get hired?

Thank you.

@Sammi Yang find a stud producing Loan officer and work as his assistant for a couple years. Then make the leap.  Treat it as an apprenticeship program.  Then take the leap when you are ready.
