Getting a Loan while on Maternity Leave

My wife and I just welcomed our newborn baby to the world and my wife is currently on maternity leave. She is getting paid while on maternity leave through EDD. We would like to start investing in his future and was wondering if anyone has gone through the process of getting pre-approved for a loan while on maternity leave?

I've contacted my lenders about this situation and most say that it's best to wait until she goes back to work as it would be easier to provide proof of income, etc. I've also heard that while on maternity leave, it is possible to get pre-approved providing there's a letter from her company stating that she will be back to work at a certain date.

Just wondering if anyone has gone down this path and would like to share any suggestions or advice.

Thanks in advance!
