Here is the email I recieved, t there is also a approval leter I can attatch if someonewants to view it. Could you please let me know what would be your first thoughts after reading this.

Let's translate, shall we?

Dear Mr Su(cker)tton:

After you provide us with the full names and address of the account holder at the bank you provided with routing and account numbers, we are going to clean you out.

It could be anytime or during the full term of the 2 years, but usually within one week.  May be longer than 2 years.  We will decide and complete the 'formalities' as to what else we will take from you as the situation dictates.

PS - this address in Houston is a shell.  We are actually in Nigeria and laughing our a$$es off at your naivety!

Do NOT send those details by mail or on-line!

Don't send them any information! Like Shawn said, most companies will look at your credit score and income and may pre-approve you, but asking for that sort of info via email is an obvious scam. Even if it were somehow legitimate, that isn't professional in any sense. I would go elsewhere to someone who will be more secure with your info anyways. Best of luck!

A quick internet search shows that Affiliated Mortgage Lending may be legit and may have an office in Denton, TX, if so, you could schedule a meeting with them there. They apparently have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Note: their niche is reverse mortgages, but they do other lending too. They may be easily confused by name with a bigger company in Texas called Affiliated Mortgage Company.

The letter is not an approval letter; it is written as approval "subject to". The way they word-smith can be confusing to the consumer and probably was done intentionally. So I would question their integrity.

The manner in which they reached out to you is not how most legitimate lenders do business. For all of these reasons and the reasons listed above by other posters, be cautious and do not provide your personal and banking information through email, fax or over the phone at this juncture.

How can it be an "approval" if don't even have basic info on you? I had to submit my whole life story, and have my mom come down and provide baby pictures before they would "approve" me.

"Dear Sir/Madam"  So your lender doesn't even know your name even worse your gender?!  They will likely want your bank account info claiming to make a deposit but you will win being the 100,000th victim of ID Theft and likely get your account emptied in the process.

If you want to have some fun with them tell them to put the monies in your paypal account. All one needs to deposit is the paypal account holders email address. They'll give excuses why that won't do. Switch up and tell them to deposit it via Square app. They will keep shutting down the most secure ways to transfer funds from them to you and keep waving that big pay out to you. Most of them aren't smart at all so the one person that's been trying to scam you will seek backup.  The email address probably isn't from ex: j.smith@affiliatemortgagelending.com or info@affiliatemortagelending.com  its  often hotmail.

@Damaris Sutton, welcome to BP. It is not unreasonable for a lender to ask for financial information, however, that is usually done before they approve a loan. This is very suspicious to me but, most importantly, it is suspicious to you or you would not have posted. You already know the correct answer. If you cannot verify that the lender is legitimate, do not provide the information and  walk away.

Sure, an unsecured $100k loan, 2% rate, no payments for six months.......not a chance in hell, particularly without a a Really strong track record.
