Is buying land for 2-3 years a good investment?

I have some retirement money to invest and thought instead of the stock market, it may be smart to diversify in land (I don’t currently have any). Assuming I find land in a growing residential market with access to water, plumbing, etc, do you think I could buy a plot and resell in 2-3 years? I’d like to access the money in a few years to buy my 1st, and hopefully forever, home. Perhaps I’m being a little naive in my thinking.
