Is an ADU worth it? (los angeles county)

Carmela Zaragoza

hello! would it be worth it to do an ADU conversion on a garage if the use would be for a home office/storage? the garage already has a bathroom but no permits. we have no plans of renting it out, it would only be for personal use. we're planning on selling the house within 7-10 years, So I am more wondering on the ROI end of things. thank you so much!

Hey Carmela,

The reason you would want to add an ADU would be to rent it out for extra income.

The cost of legally building an ADU will not be recovered in the sale because it does not make your home appraise that much higher for having one versus not.

I hope this answered your question.
