Pulling a list of old sales - But sale date is missing

When acquiring a list from list-source or any other provider, How do you get the list for the "black hole" owners. Because the very old sale records will not often have a original sale date. Thus they are not making it on the list , they fall off due to not having a sale date when specifying the sale dates you require. . Do you have to pull the entire area and filter the list?
