What property type to invest in

I am doing a lot of research and reading on investing in real estate and right now I'm working on a plan. More specifically what types of properties to invest in. I want to say that apartments would be the best because they are cheaper per unit. I am just very ignorant at the moment in the best starting property to invest in, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
