Investing in a syndication passively

What does the BP world think of investing passively in a legitimate syndication like Brandon turners or one of the other established investors? Does this defeat the purpose of all the benefits of real estate IE appreciation, loan pay down, tax benefits etc? Isn’t it just like investing in the S&P 500? I am technically an accredited investor with a full time job so just curious to hear everyone’s thoughts!
