First REI: Single Family Home vs. Duplex

I am currently in my education phase of real estate investing. My goal is to acquire buy and hold properties that will provide passive income and build wealth. I would like the investment to be safe, easy to manage for a newbie, and provide cash flow. Would it be better to invest in a single family home or a duplex as my first investment? I would greatly appreciate any advice! Thank you.
