Bank Clueless About Property

I recently found a vacant home near my neighborhood that has code violations as well. I have contacted the owner, who told me he went through a bancruptcy and lost the home. After doing some research, I found that the property is still in the homeowners name even though he has bailed. I found the documentation and it is a BOA property. I called BOA twice and they are not able to find the address or owner in there database...is this common because there are so many REOs on the market? The rep said aside from getting the social sec # of the owner, he didn't leave me with many options. I wanted to see what they would be willing to sell it for, but they can't even find the freakin house on their books...??!! Has anyone experienced this?
