Should I have a JV partner sign a JV Agreement prior to Offer?

I have a deal that I'm bringing in someone to do a JV. We're going there today to get it under contract. He will be cutting a check. Should I have him sign an initial JV agreement prior to us getting the property under contract? Or is there another agreement out there? I'm fairly new to investing but this is a huge deal and I dont want to get cut out of it. Thanks in advance!
