Fence board + 2x ground contact wood for siding?

I recently bought a 1925 quadplex out of state... it has a lot of deferred maintenance including ‘some’ wood siding repair. Turns out the studs on the back wall of the building were all damaged by termite. My contractor replaced the studs and the bottom half of siding. They did tell me the original siding material they got didn’t fit, they were too thick to fit underneath the original siding, so they went with weathershield 2x contact boards and used dog ear wood for the small connecting pieces. I don’t know much about siding and since I am in daily communication with them so I don’t think they were being shady but my property manager does. My property manager truly dislikes them since the day I told him they gave me a much more reasonable quote than the contractor he recommended me whom I did use on another project...

Is it a bad thing that the some fence boards were used if they will be sealed and painted? My PM thinks they didn’t use any of the 2x ground contact materials like they claimed since all of the wood looks rough cut. I looked up the item descriptions, they seemed similar - both made of pine, treated etc. I’m currently also out of country, so I can’t  go to Home Depot to check out the materials and compare the textures myself. I’m very torn and stressed throughout my current vacation bc of this, I would prefer not have to fire either one of them to stop the ‘drama’.
