I own several properties in Detroit and suburbs. Don't listen to anyone who makes blanket statements about the viability of investing in certain areas. There are good deals to be had in bad markets, and bad ones in the best markets. Hone in on your investing strategy and then find deals that can accommodate. The numbers either work or they don't.

And your question was pretty generic like Travis pointed out. I think what he was trying to say was that when we have spent hundreds of hours learning about the area, we don't just want to take a lot of time doing a brain dump for a low-effort question like "how is the city doing?" Not that there is anything wrong with it as a question, it's just most aptly answered with "the city is doing okay." If you have more specific questions, people can go into more detail to address. But I don't think it's productive to your request for insight to jump down people's throats for providing said insight. Your post didn't give any visibility to your having done any of your own research beyond seeing a lot of properties for sale, so I would certainly echo the sentiment that you should put in some deeper investigation.
