Partnering, even when you can make it work on your own?

I am looking for some thoughts and opinions concerning partnering. I am just getting into the real estate investing business, I already have another successful business that provides me a great income. I've been evaluating deals and I am about to pull the trigger on a $2M 28 unit deal that I can swing on my own. I have a friend who also has a successful agriculture business that wants to get into the real estate business as well. My question is should we partner and pool our resources and do multiple deals together or should I just hold the course on my own. I've always been leary of partnerships as I am a lone ranger at heart but I can see the benefit of combining resources and skills. Any thoughts or real world experience would be helpful.
