Meeting Set With Local Politician...Need Advice!!!

Hi everyone! Wasn't sure where the best place to post this is... but I'm looking for a little advice.

I have been very active in networking and getting to know the important people in my market. An old professor of mine noticed my activity in a local Facebook group - and reached out saying we should meet to catch up because he works heavily in real estate and housing in the mayor's office of the major city close by (as in he works literally in the room next door and very closely with him).

I am going to this meeting with the intention of catching up with an old professor I have a good relationship with - but we will obviously be talking real estate. There is an obvious benefit to have relationship with local politicians, but I wanted to get outside opinions on the types of topics to avoid and good questions to ask.

In general, my idea was to get an understanding of his position with the city and the type of work he does, but also see if there are any opportunities for me to get involved in projects (providing free help).

Let me know your thoughts! I've never met with someone this well connected and want to make the most of this opportunity.
