How Is Something "Off Market" If It Is Broadcast On a Message Board?

I see ads all of the time that are advertising "off market" property via a broadcast on a message board. Is this broker speak of some sort? Am I missing something with finding this comical?

Hi Bryan,
I think what happens is that they refer off market to something that is not available to the general public. If you have a home to sell and you only market it to a certain set of people then its off market because not in the general market place. For example if I had a property and I wanted to sell it- I may feel like marketing to the people on BP first as they are a group of investors, if no takers then I would market to the general public via mls or craigslist or newspaper.
Thats my understanding of the situation
